Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month. We want to express gratitude for the audacious women who lead EPIC; and all of the courageous educators and administrators who serve students every day and fight for educational justice.

We Want to Hear from You!

Having a bold, ambitious vision is essential to the growth of any school, organization, or community. For many years, we've discussed the possibility of building a new school campus, and now is the time to make this dream a reality. EPIC Academy is an integral part of South Chicago. A new school can help ensure educational justice for EPIC students for years to come and is an investment in the entire community.

We want to engage all stakeholders in the discussions and planning for a new building. We value the insights of our partners, parents, alumni, and neighbors. We would love to hear your insight about the new building.

Please share your thoughts here.

Winter Career Intensives

The week of February 7 marked another successful session of Career Intensives. Career Intensives is EPIC’s signature career exploration program that exposes students to various career fields and provides them with an opportunity to hear from professionals from different industries to learn more about their career journeys and best- practices. Students then work on projects throughout the week and present them to our partners on Friday.

Some of our partners included a technology entrepreneur, video marketer, nonprofit executive, real estate investors, and construction industry professionals. Due to COVID -19, our traditional workplace visits were limited. However, we were elated to welcome partners back to our school for in-person visits.

Student Highlight: Culture's Day of Service

At EPIC, we encourage and expect our students to be community leaders. Recently, one student club embodied this graduate aim through a weekend service project.

Last month, Culture, a bible club that welcomes all, organized an event for EPIC students to volunteer at the Chicago Dream Center located on the northwest side. Celeste, the club's president, felt it was important for the group to do a service activity that would allow the club to help others while showing people about Christ through her actions. It was also important for the group to volunteer their time in a different area.

"We live in a box, people say they want to help, but they are so focused on what is happening in their community. They don't think..."

Black History Month at EPIC

EPIC students celebrated Black History Month with excitement and intention. EPIC’s Black Student Union led the charge for many of the activities with the support of other students. Activities included a raised fist display made of cardboard representing pride and solidarity against racial injustice, a symbol that became widely recognized on a global stage during the 1968 Olympics. Students also decorated the halls to encourage self-love and highlight black inventors, artists, leaders and organizations. The culminating assembly featured uplifting performances and speeches that celebrated black excellence and highlighted the talents of our students. Performances included poets, singers, a step team and a drumline.

The Dare to Imagine Dinner is Back

It has been a few years since we gathered together to celebrate our school and raise money for the critical programs we provide to ensure our students’ success. We are elated to announce that the annual Dare to Imagine Dinner will return on June 1 to the Palmer House Hilton located in downtown Chicago.

The event website will launch next week!

Multiply Your Impact

  • Did you know there are thousands of companies across the globe that will match the gifts that their employees make to charitable organizations? Since many employees are unaware of this, money allocated to important causes, such as education, is often unused. You could potentially double the impact of your gift to EPIC!
  • Please visit the matching gift page of our website to see if your contributions to EPIC are eligible for a company match. Imagine how many more students could benefit from a matching gift?
